Over the past two years, a working group of Teaching and Learning committee members has been reviewing the UTS policy and procedures for Coursework Assessment. The new policy and procedures have been approved by Academic Board and apply for all subjects that commence after January 1, 2018. So if you’re reviewing your subject, now is the time to check your assessment.
Some features of the policy haven’t changed. Assessment strongly influences what learners focus on, so all assessment tasks should still relate to the intended learning outcomes for the subject. Students’ work is still marked according to criteria that relate to these outcomes.
But there are also some new features. In line with learning.futures, there’s more emphasis on authentic assessment and on students gaining early feedback. Online submission and marking are expected, where practical.

We’ve prepared this assessment checklist to help you to identify the main policy and procedure changes that are relevant for subject coordinators. It also has reminders of some things that have stayed the same, which might be helpful if you’re new to assessment at UTS.
We’re planning a range of sessions in the LX.lab to answer questions and help with authentic assessment design, online submission and marking and making feedback more effective. Here’s the schedule of upcoming events, book now to secure your place:
