At Open Day this year we asked students, prospective students and their guardians:
Do you expect student-facing staff at university to immediately recognise and address disrespectful and/or offensive behaviour?
We heard from 1080 people and the answer to this was not overly surprising, with 92% in the affirmative. But what is your experience in the classroom? Do you feel equipped and supported to call out unacceptable behaviour and ensure your students are respected in a safe and welcoming space?
A new survey shared at the 2024 Learning and Teaching Forum invites you to share your experiences, concerns and feedback about this issue. In hearing from you and understanding your teaching experiences, we hope to improve the ways UTS can support you to recognise and address these behaviours appropriately.
The short, anonymous survey asks you to consider your level of confidence on recognising disrespectful behaviour, how we could help build this confidence in responding and reporting these behaviours and exploring ways that UTS support you in your actions.
Access the survey here – please have your responses in by Friday 20 December. We’ve already had a high response from the survey being shared at the forum and look forward to an even wider range of experiences and ideas to be captured so we can all learn together in safe, respectful spaces.
