Qwickly Attendance is an attendance and participation tracking tool integrated into Canvas. This guide explains how you can view your attendance record, check-in to a class attendance activity and view marks associated with attendance if attendance is compulsory or forms part of your assessment.
Not all Canvas subjects sites will have Qwickly attendance turned on. If your subject coordinator has chosen to use Qwickly, the Qwickly Attendance tool link will be available in your Canvas subject menu. If you don’t see the Qwickly Attendance link in your Canvas subject menu please consult your tutor for advice.
The first time you launch Qwickly Attendance you will be prompted to allow Qwickly to access your Canvas account, click Authorise to access Qwickly Attendance tool. Your Qwickly Attendance records are private and only accessible by you, teaching staff and the relative support teams.
UTS have opted to turn Qwickly Attendance caching on to enhance the system performance. The Qwickly Attendance tool retrieves all of its information directly from Canvas and caches the data in a session cookie.
The data collected in the cache includes student course attendance records, instructor name, instructor email address, student name, student email address, student ID/Student Information System ID, Canvas instructor ID, and Canvas student ID. Further information is available here:
To opt out of having your data cached click on the message “Qwickly stores some user data” located in the bottom right corner of your Qwickly Attendance browser window.
A pop up message will appear. Use the “click here” link to opt out of Qwickly caching your data.
Open your Canvas subject site.
Launch the Qwickly Attendance link from the course menu.
Qwickly will open in a new tab. When you’re ready to navigate back to your Canvas course you will need to close the Qwickly tab (the back navigation in Qwickly won’t work).
When you access Qwickly, you should see:
Attendance can be taken manually by your instructor or by using the student self check-in function in the Qwickly Attendance tool. If your instructor chooses to use student self check-in the following scenarios may apply:
Check-in is only available when your instructor starts the check-in activity in Qwickly. If you don’t see a check-in option, close Qwickly and open it again when instructed to check-in.
When directed by your instructor to check-in, launch the Qwickly Attendance tool from your Canvas subject menu.
The screen may display a:
If a PIN is used for the Qwickly check-in activity your instructor should display the four digit pin on a shared screen or projector and provide the PIN details verbally.
Once the check-in session ends either automatically by the countdown timer or manually by your instructor you can refresh your screen to check your attendance record.
If your instructor has opted to allocate marks for attendance or subtract marks for absences, a grade will appear in your Canvas Gradebook. Consult your subject outline for specific details on how attendance marks are allocated.
