From mid-September 2024, GradesPlus will allow Subject Coordinators and Grade Faculty Administrators to submit final grades, marks and an Authority to Vary Results (AVR) for a subject in Canvas. This page provides information on how to submit final grades or marks using GradesPlus.
Information on submitting AVRs can be found in the resource Submitting AVRs using GradesPlus.
You can use GradesPlus to:
There is contextual help available in GradesPlus to help Subject Coordinators and Grade Faculty Administrators to resolve submission errors.
All subjects currently running in Session 5 and Spring Session 2024 will be moved to GradesPlus for grade submission. Check if your subject has GradesPlus available, or when it is scheduled to be available.
If you require access to a past subject to submit an online AVR and GradesPlus is not available, request GradesPlus activation through ServiceConnect.
You can access GradesPlus from the course navigation menu located on the left-hand side of your Canvas site.
If you know you have access to GradesPlus, but it is not visible in your subject’s navigation menu, you may need to edit the navigation menu in your subject Settings to enable the GradesPlus link.

To override a grade or mark for a student:
Your faculty or school will set a deadline for grades to be submitted for each teaching session. To meet this deadline, you may need to enter an exception grade (such as W, T, Q, etc) for a student if their results are pending or if the student has not completed a required task.
To add exception grades:
Grades or marks can be approved and transferred to CASS multiple times before the final results are due. Check with your school administration team for the due dates for your subject.
To submit grades or marks:
If there are any errors, they will be listed. Table 2 describes potential submission errors.
Grades or marks can only be submitted for students if “Ready to Submit” is displayed in the Submission Status column.
If you do not see ‘Ready to Submit’ in the Submission Status column for a student, this can be due to a variety of errors. GradesPlus automatically checks for errors and provides feedback to help you resolve the cause of an error before you submit grades for the student.
The following table summarises the causes of Student Status errors and what you can do about them.
ERROR | Description | Solution |
---|---|---|
Not enrolled | Student is not enrolled in the student administration system (CASS) for this subject. You can’t submit grades for this student until this problem is resolved. | Send an email with faculty approval to progressions@uts.edu.au to resolve this issue. |
Misconduct Sanction | The student has a misconduct outcome pending. Wait for the outcome to be finalised before submitting grades. | Misconduct & Appeals will advise faculty when the outcome is finalised and the result can be submitted. |
No Final Mark | The student is missing component marks in the Gradebook. Student grades cannot be submitted until the final grade is updated or an exception grade has been assigned. | Enter component marks in the Gradebook so that a Final Mark is generated or apply an exception grade. |
Unable to select a Fail (X) Exception grade | The Fail (X) Exception Grade option can’t be selected for a student. | The student must have a Final Mark for the Fail (X) grade to be available for selection. Fail (X) grades can only be awarded for students who have received a Pass (P) or higher grade. |
Your result due date has now passed | After your grades submission end date has passed, any changes to results need to be submitted as an AVR. GradesPlus will display a notification when the result due date has passed. | You will need to submit your results as an AVR. |
Multiple Enrollments | Grades cannot be submitted through GradesPlus when the student is enrolled in more than one CASS subject that is part of this Canvas course. | Submit any changes to grades as an AVR. |
Grade is not allowed | The grade assigned to the student is not valid for this grading scheme. | Check that the course grading scheme is set correctly in your subject settings. |
Score is less/more than allowed | The score assigned to the student does not match the score range for the grade (e.g. a Fail X must be a pass or higher). | Change or remove the invalid exception grade. |
