Bookings for this event are now FULL.

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to develop your teaching? We invite you to participate in selected modules in our Teaching for Learning.Futures (TLF) program.

Modules 2, 3 and 6 are now fully booked

To further your professional development and develop the understanding, capability and confidence to teach subjects aligned with learning.futures (UTS’s university-wide approach to blended learning) we are offering an opportunity to undertake two modules in the TLF program and pay you.  As well as encouraging innovative and active teaching with a strong focus on learning, the whole TLF (six-modules) program supports academics to build connections within and across disciplines to promote opportunities for future collaboration.  Each blended module involves up to 4 hours combined face 2 face (F2F) and online work.

Three of the modules have been selected as particularly relevant for casual academics (see below)  – please note that Module 3 is designed particularly for those who play a role in designing and co-ordinating subjects.

CASUAL ACADEMICS 2019 TLF PROGRAM OPTIONS

Module 2: Active and collaborative learning
Presenter: Adam Morgan
5 March – 18 March 2019
F2F session: Tuesday 12 March, 2.00-4.30, IML room CB01.27.014

A broad set of active and collaborative learning techniques, along with the philosophies of learning and teaching underlying their design, are explored in this module.  Suitable for both tutorial and larger teaching spaces, the techniques introduced in the face-to-face session enable you to experience the effects and benefits they deliver for your students. Opportunities to share experiences and to reflect on the effectiveness of various techniques are also provided.

Module 3: Designing for learning.futures
Presenter: Jo McKenzie
19 March – 1 April 2019
F2F session: Tuesday 26 March, 2.00-4.30, IML room CB01.27.014

Refresh your subject design to be consistent with the UTS learning.futures approach. This module focuses on the design of learning experiences for students and understandings of blended subject design. We explore ways of designing subjects that align what you want students to learn with the teaching approach and activities used, as well with the assessment tasks. We discuss how the UTS model of learning and the learning.futures approach are integral to promoting engaging, interactive and inspiring student learning environments in UTS subjects.

Module 6:  Teaching in Linguistically Diverse Classrooms
Presenters: Caroline Havery & Neela Griffiths
7 May – 20 May 2019
F2F session: Tuesday 14 May, 2.00-4.30, LX.Lab CB06.04.020

This session explores ways in which you can focus your teaching  to enable linguistically diverse learners to fully participate, engage in and maximise learning in the subjects you design, coordinate and teach. The session explores the academic communication skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and supports you in developing strategies that are relevant to your specific teaching context. Finally, we will discuss your plans for integrating these ideas into your teaching using an inquiry-based approach.
