COVID-19 has resulted in a fundamental shift in learning, teaching and social spaces. While schools are slowly returning back with the start of the new term, students continue to learn from home, with many teachers, students and parents still adjusting to the home learning environment.
While some students will thrive and adapt easily in this environment, for others, the transition to home learning may create additional burden and impact their ability to fully engage and learn.
Students who are vulnerable or marginalised are likely to face challenges as a result of the home learning environment – some of these issues can relate to family relationships and support while learning; adapting to home as a learning space; the digital divide; and dealing with the current uncertainty as a young person.
Teachers have always played an influential role in students’ social and emotional well-being, and during these times young people are likely to lean more on their teachers for educational and non-educational support.
In this impact2020 webinar, hosted by CSI’s Dr Meera Varadharajan, our panel of researchers and teachers will discuss these complexities and some of the strategies that can assist students in vulnerable contexts to cope during these challenging times.
Please note: This webinar starts at 12:00pm (AEST) and registrations will close an hour before.
This impact2020 webinar is a free event presented by the Centre for Social Impact.
