Presenter: Kris Wilson – Lecturer in the Faculty of Law
Topic: Teaching Indigenous Content and Perspectives – Experiences in 76068 Indigenous Peoples and the Law
2019 saw a rebuild and reframing of 76068 Indigenous Peoples and the Law in preparation for the implementation of the Indigenous Graduate Attribute. That reframing involved, in particular, bringing Aboriginal voices and perspectives explicitly to the forefront and implementing alternative assessment methods. In this seminar Kris Wilson will discuss the structure of the new course, the assessment approach, and techniques Kris used to teach across topics that involve historical sensitivities and embedded mistruths.
Kris Wilson is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Law University of Technology Sydney researching in the fields of cybersecurity, computer related crime and Indigenous traditional knowledge in a digital context. His doctoral thesis examined the structure and operation of data access offences in the context of criminalisation theory and the evolving nature of the ‘use’ of computing technologies. For the duration of his doctoral work Kris was a Charlie Perkins, Roberta Sykes, and Chevening Scholar.
