Tooltime
Take a break, bring your coffee and bring your ideas. Snack on nifty apps and techniques to do crafty stuff. A fortnightly series of short casual meetups to introduce handy tools for your academic utility belt. Tools that might engage learners, streamline your teaching or to simply save time.
Next at Tooltime: Qwickly
Qwickly for Blackboard is a plug-in which allows a student to select files from cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and Box for assignments. For the teacher, Qwickly enables batch processes such as uploading a document to multiple subjects in different ways or posting an announcement across a range subjects they are an instructor in.
The Qwickly Attendance module provides a way to “take attendance that is automatically graded in the Blackboard Grade Center. Faculty can take attendance using an attendance list on screen or allow students to check in on their own browser, complete with a PIN and countdown timer. Attendance rosters can also be split by Blackboard groups”. This can be particularly useful in large classes.
The UTS Learning and Teaching Systems team in ITD will demonstrate a trial version of Qwickly and is interested in gauging staff interest in this tool.
