It is likely that your students will know of someone who uses project management in some way in their lives. The HQ PBL framework sets out key elements for successful PBL implementation. Project management is a key part of this framework and is vital in enabling and scaffolding students to successfully carry out projects.  How can we help students to develop these skills and ready them for their future?

Here are 6 tips to get you going!

  • Provide templates for mapping deadlines
  • Identify deliverables for the project
  • Encourage students to divide work into achievable tasks and think about how much time is required for each task
  • Provide scaffolds for students to make agendas for their meetings
  • Set activities and opportunities to reflect and monitor progress
  • Use technology

Technology is a great and authentic way to build project management skills. You could systems such as Microsoft (I use teams and planner to help collaborate , create tasks and deadlines- available on my phone and desktop!) and Google to share documents, planning and deadlines. There are also a bunch of free apps such as  Asana, Redbooth and Wrike to plan tasks and deadlines. If you don’t want to have to worry about finding software, you could even just tap into existing software including students calendar and reminders on their iphone or android devices.

How can you find out more? Of course a quick search online will uncover a range of great techniques but why not connect up with a community group or organisation to find out how they manage their projects?
