Course sites (or program sites) are a type of non-subject site. These are usually used for non-teaching and non-assessment purposes. When purposefully designed and maintained, they can be the locus for the formation of a community of practice.
Your Course site can be used in a number of ways. The most successful sites include a mix of student communication and course-related resources such as forms, Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs), staff contact details and general links to student support services.
Remember, your course site is not just one thing. There are a range of tools in Canvas to support your community building. Announcements are one of these but discussion forums, H5P interactive features, social polls and comments boxes all help to bring your site to life.
If you primarily want to send announcements to students, you can get the same or better functionality from an Outlook Group or through MS Teams. To learn about using those tools instead contact the LX.lab.
There are a number of meaningful ways to use your course site in Canvas to communicate messages or information to your students. Here are some examples of the kinds of content and messages you might use your Course site for:

Our Master of Project Management is the first PMI GAC Accredited Program in Australia. Now graduates of GAC accredited programs will be granted substantial credit toward the experience requirement for all PMI certifications.
