Why write a blog post?
Publishing a blog post is a great way to promote your work and connect with the academic community. The short length of blogs appeals to time-poor academics, acting as an accessible springboard to further discussion. Plus, expressing complex ideas concisely and jargon-free opens up the discussion of your ideas to a wider audience, particularly when your blog is shared on social media.
Coming up with an idea
Have you had an interesting conversation with a colleague recently, or read an article that you thought was relevant to your work? Perhaps you’ve recently come up with a solution to a common issue, or you’d like some suggestions on what to do. Any of these could make for an interesting post.
Take a look through the posts that are currently on the blog. This will give you an idea of the types of content that tend to be featured, and the variety of styles that different authors bring to the table. Remember, your post does not need to look or sound like anyone else’s – we want a diverse range of voices telling their own stories about the UTS learning and teaching community.
Transforming your idea into a blog
Blogs are a way of giving short bursts of information in an easy-to-digest format. As long as your post is clear and concise (aim for 500-700 words), you’re heading in the right direction. If you feel that there is further, more instructional, content required, it may be considered for inclusion in Resources.
