The following resource describes what is required from a student perspective in relation to proctored exams. A separate resource designed for students is available on the UTS website. Once an exam has been scheduled, the communication with students in regard to these steps will be centrally managed by ProctorU’s automated systems and the SAU Exams team.
Students will be able to determine their exam type by checking My Student Admin.
The experience is comprised of the following steps:
Setup and preparation – Students are required to perform several digital setup steps (creating a ProctorU account and downloading the Guardian browser) and prepare a physical space that will be appropriate to take the exam.
Practice exam – Students can take a short practice exam in Canvas a number of days before their scheduled exam to see how the experience will work and make sure that their technical setup is working. Students undertaking a centrally conducted AI invigilated exam will automatically be enrolled into the practice exam by the Exams team.
Final Exam – Students will take their final exam in Canvas with ProctorU providing AI based invigilation.
The information below goes into these steps and expectations in more detail.
To access an invigilated exam online, students will need a reliable internet connection, and a desktop computer or laptop with webcam, speakers and a microphone. On the day of the exam they will also need a UTS Student ID to verify their identity using facial recognition.
Students will also have to create an exam environment in their own space. This space should be:
For students to be prepared to take their invigilated exam they need to complete the following steps before their exam day.
Students are expected to take the practice test before the real exam. The practice experience should take students less than 20 minutes to complete – this will allow students to make sure they have all the correct equipment and software applications enabled. The practice exam will also check for any technical issues.
The practice exams are designed to mirror the final experience of the exam as closely as possible so that they serve as an effective test run. AI invigilated practice exams can be taken in a broad window in the run up to the final exam and will also mirror the final AI invigilated experience.
Students with AI invigilated exams are expected to open the Guardian browser and log straight into Canvas at least 15 minutes before their exam is scheduled to start.
Once they are logged in, they are expected to close any other browsers and programs that have not been approved for their exam.
Once the exam is open, students will be guided through the information and system checks. After these checks are completed they will be able to take the exam.
