Help your students succeed by supporting their access requirements. The Accessibility Service uses Access to communicate students’ learning and assessment adjustments with Subject Coordinators. Learn how to use Access to manage and implement learning and assessment arrangements.
Overview of the Access faculty portal
As a Subject Coordinator you can use the Access faculty portal to:
- Review and respond to requests for students
- View which students in your subject have approved learning and assessment adjustments.
The most compatible browsers to use with Access are Google Chrome and Firefox.
How to review and approve a request
Subject Coordinators will receive an email notification prompting them to log in to Access for each new request.
To review and respond to a request:
- Log into Access with your UTS staff details
- Select Accommodation Letters from the navigation menu
- Select a request from the list (Note: all requests requiring an action will say REQUESTED after the title of the request)
- Review the details of the request
- Acknowledge/approve by selecting the yes or no checkbox under recipient signature. (Note: Some requests only require the Subject Coordinator to acknowledge the request as it has already been approved by the ALO and needs implementation)
- Add any comments, questions, or detailed feedback in the Comments section
- Type your name in the Your signature field to sign off (no need to add an electronic signature)
- The approved/acknowledged request will be sent back to the Accessibility Consultant who will liaise with the student.
- If necessary for the adjustment to be implemented, Subject Coordinators can discuss adjustments with tutors unless the Accessibility Consultant has explicitly said not to.
- Once an accommodation letter has been approved/acknowledged in Access, the status will change from REQUESTED to SIGNED
If the request is not approved, please provide detailed feedback or alternatives in the comments section so that the Accessibility Consultant can provide additional information and options to the student.
How to view learning and assessment adjustments for students in your subject
As a Subject Coordinator, you can view students learning and assessment adjustments in your subject.. In Access these are called accommodations.
- Select Units/Subjects from the navigation menu on Access homepage.
- Select the subject that you wish to view.
- Select Enrolled Students
- Refine the search results by using the filtering system and sort-by option (eg. Select more filters select yes for approved accommodations for this course and apply search). The default search is for all students in your subject.
- Learning and assessment adjustments are updated weekly (Mondays).
- You may prefer to download this information into excel.
Please be sure to maintain privacy and record keeping requirements by not saving insecurely or storing – the use of this feature is to view for the purpose of implementation/approval of requests.
