You may be interested in sharing your own educational videos, but what about finding and reusing others in Kaltura?
To begin finding your colleagues work access Kaltura Media either by embedding it on a page in Canvas or through the Media Gallery. Then select the tab labelled ‘Shared Repository’.
In the ‘Shared Repository’, there are two places that help you search for the work of your colleagues. The first is the search bar (1); the second is the filter button (2).
Via the search bar, you can search for a keyword and it will pick up any results in Video titles, tags and even the captions. In the following example, we searched for the word ‘news’ (A).
Notice that it picked up the word in the description (B) but also in 1 tag and 8 captions (C). You can select ‘Show More’ to see the exact instance of the word in the captions (D). This allows you to get a better idea of how relevant the video is for you.
You will only be able to search for videos that are Published to the Shared Repository like the following:
There are several criteria available to you when filtering in My Media.
To see the first page of filtering options select ‘Filters’ (1).
The first option allows you to choose the ‘Media Type’ (2). You’ll be able to choose Video, Quiz (video with Kaltura’s quiz function embedded), Audio or Image. The second option relates to ownership – you can generally leave it as ‘Any Owner’ if you want to search the entire repository.
Next, ‘Captions’ (3) should always be set to ‘Available’ so you only find content that is accessible to all students. ‘Duration’ (4) can be adjusted according to your needs. If you’re looking for very short videos, select 00:00-10:00 min. If you’re looking for longer lectures, leave the selection on ‘Any Duration’.
You can add more filters to your search by selecting ‘More Filters’ (5). The main filter you will want to use here is the ‘Faculty or Department’ (6).
As an example, if we select DAB under this option, we get videos recorded and shared recently from DAB such as one about producing a Cuban Collar in Garment Patterning.
Finally, to embed this video on your desired page in Canvas, choose the arrow next to the ‘Select’ button and choose ‘Large’. This ensures the video displays well in Canvas.
