We have had many requests for support from Australian universities needing to provide appropriate interactive, online learning experiences for students who may not be able to travel to their Australian university campus for the beginning of the academic year. We have implemented a number of activities, from technical advice, to training for staff, to help universities. The first of these is staff training opportunities to use Teams, which is accessible for students within China and other countries.
Webinars for teaching staff
Many lecturers this year will be using Microsoft Teams for teaching for the first time. With the new academic year around the corner, and as a result of needing to run teaching sessions for students overseas, or mixed classes with more students attending from outside of the lecture hall, there are tight timescales to be ready for the start of Semester One. This means that you may not be able to deliver or attend face to face training in advance of wanting to deliver your first Teams session to students.
To help, we have setup webinars this week to help you, and your colleagues, to learn how to get started with Teams in teaching, and to master the basics of live interactive teaching online.
There are 3 webinars running this week, open to any university staff, including full and part-time lecturers
- Get started with Teams for online learning: For users (staff and students) who have never used Teams before. This session includes how to access Teams, how to run your first Teams meeting and present content, including screen sharing. We also cover setting your best default settings
- Engaging your students in Teams: How to deliver a remote session with more interactiving – using chat, polling and whiteboard functions
- Recording, publishing and language options for Teams: Recording meetings, publishing on Stream, how to enable live captions, captions on recordings, and how students can access translated captions
We will cover Teams meetings (for up to 250 participants), Teams live events (for up to 10,000 participants), and the use of Stream for catchup viewing, or where bandwidth is severely restricted.
- On-demand and live recordings for your students to stay up to date with learning and assessments
- Live Chat function to send messages instantly and connect with students and colleagues
- Collaboratively work on shared files and resources with built-in Office 365
- Increase productivity by staying connected via video meetings

Participants can join at any time during either webinar, multiple times, via the daily link. Join for 30 minutes, then leave and come back later, or stay for the whole session. Or do session 1 & 2 on Thursday, and finish off with session 3 on Friday
