The record option in Zoom allows you, as the meeting host, to save your meeting as a video file that will be automatically and securely saved to Zoom cloud storage. You can then share a link to the recording with students for them to view. Only the main meeting will be recorded, and not the Breakout Rooms or chat messages.
Zoom recordings can be accessed from the Zoom Cloud or from Canvas. Note that if you are accessing your recording from Canvas, only the Zoom meeting recordings associated with the subject you are viewing will appear.
When you use Zoom for the first time, you will be asked to ‘Accept’ that your information can be shared with utsmeet.zoom.us.
Make sure you understand your obligations as a meeting host by referring to UTS’s Zoom recording of sessions policy.
Start your meeting in Zoom – when you are ready to start recording, select ‘Record’ from the navigation menu.
A ‘Recording’ icon will appear in the top corner of the screen when the recording is underway. Select the icons in the navigation menu or recording box to pause or complete the recording.
When you have selected to stop the meeting, a confirmation pop up will appear. Select ‘Stop Recording’.
When you record a Zoom meeting it is stored in the Zoom cloud. As the meeting host, you can access these recordings and manage their sharing permissions by logging into Zoom and navigating to Recordings under the left menu. Clicking on ‘Recordings’ will take you to options for downloading, sharing and recording analytics.
If you use Zoom Cloud’s automatic recording feature under your profile settings, please be aware that this will record every meeting you schedule and host. We advise turning on automatic recording on a case-by-case basis through the Schedule meeting > Options > Automatically record meeting in the cloud.
You will receive an email when your recording is ready – note that it can take up to 24 hours from the end of your recording to receive the Zoom cloud notification email.
Recordings on the Zoom Cloud are stored for 180 days (or 6 months) and you will be notified 7 days before the recordings will be removed from your account. If you need your recording beyond this timeframe, you can download the recording to keep it on your computer or to upload to Kaltura.
