How often have you heard the following?
Students just don’t go online
They don’t participate unless they have to…
Student will go online if the grades are there.
Have you wondered how to get your students to interact online? How can they continue to share their ideas and understanding that occurred in their face to face discussions in the online space? How to build, encourage and support a thriving community of learners – both online and face to face?
As students learn they test what they know about your subject content by having conversations, sharing knowledge and collaborating on ideas. This process is key and most times occurs outside of the classroom and can be difficult to continue in the online space. However the power of the learning community is clear, encouraging trust and sharing of ideas and understandings, increasing a sense of belonging, improving group work and collaboration.
This one-hour workshop will explore some of ideas to get students to engage with each other, with their lecturers and with the subject content, both online and in the classrooms.
We will present you with some ideas and strategies, and we ask that you share some of your ideas and strategies too. The workshop will be experiential, where you can design a structure to create your own community of learners which facilitate interactions in and outside of your physical classroom.
