Organise all the content you create in H5P into your own folders and share these with collaborators who will have view and edit access.
By default, your H5P content will all be saved in the ‘Root Folder.’ This can become clunky and unwieldy to navigate. To organise and make your content easier to find and reuse, it is highly recommended that you create a folder system in H5P and save your work accordingly.
To create a folder system, open a new H5P editor via the Canvas rich content editor (RCE) and then click the ‘New Folder’ button.
Type the name of the folder you wish you save your work in (eg. Genetics 1 & 2 as per images) and then click ‘Create’. The folders you create here will then become available in the H5P editor and when you create and save new H5P content items.
By default, new H5P content items will be saved in the ‘Root Folder’. Please remember to designate the folder when creating new content types. This can be found at the bottom of the H5P editor.
You can also move existing items into different folders via three dotted icons on the left-hand side of the respective item. Once you click the ‘move’ option, you will then be prompted as to which folder you’d like to move the activity into.
There are three publishing options available:
When inserting newly created H5P content into Canvas, the default setting is ‘Protected’. It is recommended that you leave this setting as it is and not change it unless you want to publish this outside of Canvas.
Please note that you can change publishing settings any time after inserting the H5P content into Canvas. Any changes to publishing settings thereafter will affect existing H5P activities and may potentially affect students.
H5P allows you to control the way your content is displayed and shared. Open your H5P content, select Edit and scroll to the bottom of your content. Theses settings are divided into sub-categories:
Display options allows you to turn on a toolbar of icons that displays at the bottom of your content. Turning on this toolbar allows you to control whether users can download your content, embed your content, display Copyright information called ‘Rights of use’ and activate a confusion indicator. For more information, visit H5P Content Settings.
Collaborators are users who have permission to view and edit your content. If, for example, you are teaching a subject with a colleague, you may want them to be able to edit and/or co-create a H5P activity.
To add a user as a collaborator, click the ‘Collaborators’ tab.
You can search for a colleague by typing their name or email address. Only users who have already begun to use H5P through the UTS Canvas plugin can be added as collaborators.
The list of users with access to this specific H5P activity will then be visible.
To share your H5P content item with colleagues around UTS so they can view and clone your content, click the ‘Share with organization’ tab.
There is a folder allocated to each faculty/school. Choose the appropriate folder for you by clicking in the tick box.
Colleagues who access your shared content will not be able to edit it. However, if you make a change to your original content, your changes will be visible to everyone who accesses it. Colleagues can clone your shared content and then make changes to their own version if they want to.
Shared content is accessible to everyone with access to UTS’s H5P editor regardless of whether they are a member of your faculty or school.
With the H5P OER Hub, you can share your H5P content to a global audience so they can view, re-use, download and/or adapt your content.
For details on accessing the H5P OER Hub, as well as finding and using content, view our Find and reuse H5P content resource.
Prior to sharing, ensure you have edited the metadata on any items that require attribution (e.g. images). This video (3:07 mins) guides you through the process.
H5P Live Engagement Tool types such as Multipoll, Wordcloud, Emoji Cloud and The Chase cannot be shared into the OER Hub.
With ‘Edit’ activated, locate and select the H5P button in the Rich Content Editor toolbar. Selecting that menu item will open a pop-up showing your H5P library. From here, you will have the option to share content to the H5P OER Hub.
Locate the H5P content you would like to share. Select the three dots and then Share on OER Hub. A pop-up window will appear where you can edit Required Info and Optional Info, and then Review & Share.
Once you have filled out the required information select the ‘Review info’ button to move to the ‘Review & Share’ section and check your settings. Select ‘Share’ if you are happy to share your content to the H5P OER Hub. Contents shared to the H5P OER Hub are identified by a social community icon next to the item name in your library.
All contents in your H5P OER shared activity can be copied and edited by anyone with access to the H5P OER Hub.
Open the item in your H5P library. Then, select the ‘Edit’ sharing info link, make the necessary changes and save.
Open the item in your H5P library. Then, select the ‘Unshare’ link.
Any subsequent changes you make to a H5P item in your library after it has been shared with the H5P OER Hub is not automatically synchronised. Open the H5P item, make the necessary changes, select ‘Save’, and then select the ‘Sync changes’ link.
This video (4:42 mins) shows the process for adding and removing items from the hub.
