How to apply extra time to quizzes and assign different due dates to provide extensions in Canvas. Plus, learn why a student might need extra time and extensions to help them succeed in their studies.
Extra time and extensions may be requested by a student registered with Accessibility Services if their ongoing health condition/disability impacts on their ability to complete assessments during the specified time frame.
For example, a student might need extra time and/or an extension during exacerbations of their condition and managing unpredictable health impacts, such as fatigue or other symptoms.
Extra time gives the student a longer amount of time to complete each attempt at a quiz. Apply extra time by using the Moderate Quiz feature:
Extensions for Assignments and Quizzes can be applied in Canvas by assigning different due dates and availability windows using the Assign to feature.
By default, Canvas will assign your assignment to everyone in your course with the same due dates and availability windows. To assign a different due date to an individual student:
When an individual student or students are added to an assignment, the Everyone assignment changes to Everyone Else, which assigns the remaining course students to the corresponding due and availability dates.
To add another student with a different due date and availability date, select the Add button and follow the same steps.
