Open pedagogy is a teaching and learning approach that has emerged from the Open Culture movement. It is centred on the principles of openness, collaboration and shared ownership of knowledge.
UTS is honoured to have Professor Maha Bali, a distinguished educator who is a Professor of Practice at the Center for Learning and Teaching at The American University in Cairo (AUC), as a guest speaker at the UTS Open Education Week.
In her highly interactive presentation, Professor Bali will:
- Introduce us to open pedagogy and open educational practices
- Highlight the impact of open pedagogy on promoting a socially just education
- Delve into practical strategies for adopting open pedagogy in creating learning activities and assessment
About Professor Maha Bali
Maha Bali is a Professor of Practice at the Center for Learning and Teaching at The American University in Cairo (AUC). She has a PhD in education from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. She co-founded virtually connecting, a grassroots movement that challenges academic gatekeeping at conferences. Also, Bali is a co-facilitator of Equity Unbound; an equity-focused, open, connected intercultural learning curriculum, which has also branched into academic community activities. Such activities are Continuity with Care, Socially Just Academia, a collaboration with OneHE: Community-building Resources and MYFest, an innovative three-month professional learning journey.
