Canvas Course Navigation

The Course Navigation Menu is a series of links on the left side of your Canvas course that help you and your students access the different areas of your site. These links are shown by default and cannot be renamed.

Links with the crossed-out eye icon, are not visible to students. Sections that don’t have any published content will be automatically hidden from students.

Depending on the structure of your subject, you can choose to reorder and/or hide course navigation links.

The active link is highlighted with different text and background colours [1]. This helps you quickly identify the area you are currently viewing on the right hand side of the screen. Links that are hidden to students are faded in the list [2].

You can re-order the course navigation links to reflect your specific subject requirements, but please note that the links cannot be renamed. You can also hide or disable those you don’t want students to see or access. Students accessing a course navigation link which has been disabled will be redirected to the Course Home Page.

Re-ordering and hiding Announcements, Assignments, Discussions and Files will affect the tabs for your course on your Dashboard.
