Find H5P content other people have shared and reuse it in your own Canvas site.
You can browse and reuse H5P content that your colleagues have shared in UTS organisation folders. To browse organisation folders, open a new H5P editor via the Canvas rich content editor (RCE). Then, next to Manage Content, select ‘All Content’.
Organisation folders at UTS are coloured green and labelled by faculty. You can view and reuse any of the content items in these folders.
To reuse a content item in your own Canvas site, select ‘Clone’ from the item’s options. This will create a copy of the item under your account. Once you’ve made the changes you need, select ‘Clone and Insert’ to add the item to your Canvas page.
You can see examples of different H5P activities and layouts across the web. H5P has its own Examples and Downloads site where you can preview different activities and seek inspiration.
When you see H5P content online, you might also see a ‘Reuse’ button. Select ‘Reuse’ on publicly available H5P activities to download these as a H5P file.
To add a H5P file to your Canvas page, open a new H5P editor via the Canvas rich content editor (RCE). Then click on the blue ‘Add Content’ button.
Under ‘Select content type’, choose Upload. You’ll then be able to upload the H5P file, make any edits you need, and insert the activity into your page.
The H5P OER Hub is a platform that brings together H5P and the world of Open Educational Resources (OER).
Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching, learning, and research materials that are either (a) in the public domain or (b) licensed in a manner that provides everyone with free and perpetual permission to engage in the 5R activities.
The OER Hub serves as a collaborative space where educators and content creators can share, discover, and collaborate on openly licensed educational materials that incorporate H5P interactive elements. By providing a centralised repository for H5P OER, the Hub enables educators to easily access, adapt, and use interactive content in their teaching. The H5P OER Hub plays a crucial role in advancing open education and promoting interactive, engaging, and accessible learning materials for a global audience. Visit the UTS Open Access Policy for more information.
You can access the H5P OER Hub in Canvas or through https://uts.h5p.com.
Access to H5P OER in Canvas is accessible via the Edit view of a Page, Assignment, Discussion Board, Announcement or Quiz question. With Edit activated, locate and select the H5P button in the Rich Content Editor toolbar. A pop-up will open showing your H5P library. From here, you will have the option to Create Content, Get Shared Content or Upload. Select Get Shared Content to view the OER repository.
Alternatively, log onto https://uts.h5p.com/ and select the +Add Content button. From here, you have the option to Create Content, Get Shared Content or Upload. Select Get Shared Content to view the OER repository.
This video (2:23 mins) explains where to find the H5P OER Hub in Canvas and uts.h5p.com.
Search for content using the ‘search for content’ field and/or by using the Filter by ‘Discipline’, ‘Content Types’, ‘License’, ‘Language’, ‘Level’ or ‘Reviewed’.
Select an H5P item from the list that you would like to use. This will provide you with an overview of the activity which includes a short description, license details, content type, size and more.
It is recommended that you review the license information to make sure the content is suitable for your purposes. For further information visit Open Educational Resources (OERs) | UTS Library.
Select the ‘Get Content’ button. This will open the H5P activity so you can adapt or re-use it exactly as it was created. And don’t forget to save the H5P OER content to your library.
This video (4:14 mins) explains the process of reviewing and downloading an item to your account from H5P OER hub.
After downloading the content to your library, you can start modifying it. When finished, ensure the ‘Display Copyright button’ is enabled before saving and publishing. Depending on the original license, you may also need to check the box to allow others to download your H5P.
This video (3:13 mins) demonstrates how to edit the metadata in an item to correctly display authorship.
