Teams allows you to conduct video meetings. You can use this function to give live lectures (with guest lecturers and student participation if desired), hold info sessions, run virtual consultations with students, and conduct group work.
The Meetings feature in Teams allows for video or audio calls with live instant messaging and content sharing. The system has low drop-out rates as calls change from video to audio when used with low bandwidth.
Features of meetings include:
- Meetings can be scheduled through Outlook or MS Teams or launched ad hoc from within a chat, or channel. For larger groups with over 100 attendees it is recommended to use scheduled meetings to avoid issues
- Users can join from the Teams app (recommended) or through the web browser.
- Up to 1000 users can join a scheduled meeting.
- Users are able to interact during a meeting, by asking questions in the meeting chat (visible to all members), posting ‘reactions’, sharing their screen and sharing files.
- Users can choose different access techniques (e.g, if a student has poor local bandwidth, they can join via audio only or via a telephone).
- Meetings can be recorded and accessed via OneDrive. Once you conclude your meeting (or when you choose to stop recording) the recording is saved in OneDrive by default. You will receive an email to your UTS Outlook account containing a link to the meeting recording. If you choose to embed the recording in your subject site, students will need to sign in to their MS account.

When presenting slides or documents, it is recommended to share your screen rather than use PowerPoint within Teams as this can slow the connection for students in areas with limited bandwidth.
