Files in Canvas

Files is where you can store documents, images or any other files in Canvas. There are three types and areas of Files:

• User files, for your personal files, available from your account profile.
• Course files, for subject files, located in each Canvas course you belong to
• Group files, for group files, for each group you are a member of.

Course Files contains any files that are uploaded to your subject site. Each Canvas course has a storage quota of about 2GB. Files uploaded in this area will not count towards your personal file quota. If you’ve enabled Files in your Course Navigation Menu, your students can view all the files that are in this area.

In Files, you can:

• Search files by name (see [1] in screenshot below)
• Add folders (see [2] in screenshot below)
• Upload files (see [3] in screenshot below)
• Set the copyright for a file before it is published (see [4] in the screenshot below)
• Publish or unpublish a file, and set restrictions on a file, for example, restrict access until a certain date [see [5] in screenshot below
