Microsoft Bing Chat Copilot is available to UTS staff and students under our enterprise license. Bing Chat is a free AI-powered tool using ChatGPT 4 and DALL-E and prompts can be text, audio, or image-based.
The enterprise version of Microsoft Bing Chat Copilot has a ‘green shield’ badge prominently displayed. When you see this badge you know that your personal and company data are protected. Microsoft will not use your data to train Large Language Models (LLMs), your text and files will remain within the control of UTS, and it complies with UTS privacy requirements.
If you want to use generative AI in your teaching and learning this is currently the preferred option, but you must take care to be signed in with your UTS credentials.
Using Copilot in Edge
Microsoft has integrated Copilot into Edge so this is the easiest way to access Copilot with the most functionality.
- Open the Edge browser.
- Whatever screen or website your browser opens to you will always see the blue Copilot icon in the top right of the browser.
- You should be signed in with your UTS account. Confirm your account details in the top left of the browser. If you are not signed in with your UTS account, click the account icon to sign in.
- To access Copilot (with ChatGPT 4.0 and DALL-E), select the Copilot icon at the top right. The three other icons in menu open Bing search, the Microsoft 365 suite of apps, and Outlook.
- The chat screen will open on the right side of the browser but this is configurable and can be opened to your entire screen.
Note the green shield icon – this tells you that you are using the enterprise version of Copilot and any content you enter is safe. If you cannot see this word you need to sign in with your UTS credentials.
You can also access Copilot from the Bing search page in Edge by using the Chat link in the top navigation line or the Bing logo.
Note that the Bing search engine also allows you to search within your UTS files, messages, and Teams by selecting the School option. This is possible in all browsers, while signed into Bing with your UTS credentials.
Both options will open Copilot. Remember to check that the green shield badge – if it isn’t displayed, you aren’t using the secure Enterprise version.
Using Bing search and Copilot in other browsers
You can access a limited version of Copilot in any other browser by using the Bing search page. The first step is to ensure that you are signed into Bing with your UTS credentials.
You can access Copilot by using the Chat link in the top navigation line, or the blue Bing logo.
Both options will open Copilot.
It’s possible to switch between your personal and UTS accounts when using Bing Chat in most browsers, so remember to check that the green shield badge is displayed. If it isn’t, you aren’t using the secure Enterprise version.
