People displays information about users in a Canvas course. You’ll find a link to the People page in your Course Navigation Menu.

The People page displays all information about the users in your Canvas Course. The page is designed with global settings at the top of the page [see [1] in screenshot below] followed by the generated user data [see [2] in screenshot below].
Use the People page in a Canvas course site
To search for a specific user, type the user’s name in the search field [see [1] in the screenshot above].
To filter by role (e.g. student), select the Roles drop-down menu [see [2] in the screenshot above]. The filter will also display the number of users in each type of role.
You can also add a user to the course [see [3] in the screenshot above], by clicking the +People button.
If a student has withdrawn from a subject, you can find their assessment results in Canvas with these steps:
Please keep in mind that the Student Centre does not have access to a subject in Canvas to view a withdrawn student’s assessment results. More information is available here:
How do I use the People page in a course as an instructor?
If you need to re activate the account of an ‘inactive’ student in your subject you can do it following these steps:
This role is allocated to Subject Coordinators or to other relevant faculty support staff. This role gives staff full access to Canvas to create, edit and delete content and edit the Gradebook.
Course Coordinators can:
This role gives staff full access to Canvas to create, edit and delete content and edit the Gradebook.
This role can be allocated to co-teachers for the subject or to dedicated site coordinators.
Teachers can:
Teachers cannot:
Staff in this role cannot edit the Gradebook. However, they have full access to create, edit and delete content.
Site builders who will not be teaching can be allocated to this role e.g. UTS Library liaison for your subject.
Course Designers can:

Teaching Assistants (TA) can:
The staff in this role have permissions similar to teachers. It gives staff full access to Canvas to create, edit and delete content, edit the Gradebook and mark student submissions in the Gradebook.
Teaching Assistants (TA) cannot:
The Tutor role allows access to both published and unpublished content along with assessment tasks, while lowering the risks of accidental content deletion or undesirable changes to settings. This role can be used if a tutor just needs to access the Canvas content and mark student assignments.
The Tutor/Marker can:
Tutor/Marker cannot:
This role is for staff who need read-only access to the site. They cannot add or edit content, or see the Gradebook. Give this role to staff who are only reviewing and auditing the site.
Observer can:

This is a role within Keypath for providing assistance to students to get them through the degrees that UTS / OPM partners up with Keypath. The access to Canvas is so that they can see the content and analytics around at-risk students etc.
Partner Student Success can:
Partner Student Success cannot:
This role provides access for notetakers, Accessibility Assistants (usually a PhD student from the same faculty as the student is studying) and non-UTS third party service providers, e.g. Auslan interpreters and captioners, to a Canvas subject site content including LTI embedded content (Kaltura, H5P etc.), discussion and assignments (instruction information only including dates/outlines); quiz instruction information (but not quiz questions). This role doesn’t allow participation and differentiates a support person from students.
People assigned to this role are only ever enrolled using a Staff ID.

This role is for HELPS staff providing language and literacy support to UTS undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students.
