With the Voice Referendum coming up, the UTS Working Group on the Voice to Parliament is encouraging our UTS community to be engaged and informed about casting their vote.
PowerPoint slides developed by the working group are now available as a preface to your classes, with the aim of encouraging as many people as possible to be prepared to vote on Saturday 14 October. This resource is entirely optional for you to use.
Further information to support your slides
- The referendum on the Voice to Parliament is on 14 October 2023.
- UTS supports implementing the Uluru Statement from the Heart in its entirety: Voice, Treaty and Truth-telling. Our university supports the Voice as one element of progress towards Indigenous self-determination and effective participation.
- It is every Australian citizen’s democratic right and privilege to vote, and the university encourages you to make your own decision and exercise those rights.
- There are many excellent resources out there to help you make an informed decision, but a good starting point is the UTS Voice website.
- Finally, please be considerate of others. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but no one is entitled to be racist. The public debate around the Voice is already causing harm. Especially with regards to our First Nations peers, please consider the impact that your words and actions can have.
