AARNet is decommissioning CloudStor on 15 December 2023. You may have heard about this already via the CloudStor replacement project who are working with researchers who have used CloudStor in the past for cloud storage.

But did you know that CloudStor was also used for UTS Zoom recording storage prior to 20 May 2022? Since then, Zoom recording storage has moved to the Zoom cloud. This means that any recordings that predate mid-May 2022 will no longer be accessible from 15 December 2023.

What do I need to do?

Most CloudStor users with Zoom recordings will not need to do anything.

Our data shows that only a small number of Zoom recordings have been accessed in CloudStor in the past year. This indicates that these recordings are likely past their use-by date and do not need to be recovered.

1. Consider

Do you need to keep any Zoom recordings from one or more years ago? Our current Zoom recording policy outlines that recordings made for facilitative purposes don’t need to be kept beyond their immediate use. For example, lectures may only need to be retained until the end of the relevant semester/session before being deleted. Meetings may only need to be retained until the information is transcribed.

2. Check

If you think you may have a recording you want to keep, you can first check if you have any Zoom recordings stored in CloudStor. There are two ways to do this.

  • The first is to search your UTS Outlook inbox for any Zoom recording notifications from CloudStor – this will provide you with a link to download the recording if you’d like to keep it and store it elsewhere.
  • The second option is to check if you have any files in your CloudStor Zoom recording folder via the CloudStor Desktop App, or via file explorer when synced to the CloudStor cloud.

3. Download

CloudStor have provided some easy-to-follow download instructions. You can download individual recordings, or your entire Zoom recordings folder. UTS supports other storage options including Kaltura and OneDrive.
