Another Google app is about to bite the dust. Google Jamboard, a popular online whiteboarding tool, is shutting down at the end of 2024. If you regularly use Jamboard in your teaching, now is the time to export your files and consider alternative whiteboard options.
- From 1 October 2024: you will no longer be able to create new or edit existing Jamboards
- Until 31 December: Jamboards will be available in ‘read only’ mode, allowing you time to export your Jamboard file as PDF/PNG files
- On 31 December: Jamboard will be shut down completely by Google and you will no longer have access to any of your Jamboard files
Alternative online whiteboards
There are alternative online whiteboard options available at UTS. Our resource Use online whiteboards for teaching includes some key tips and outlines 3 online whiteboards that can be accessed with your UTS credentials.
Miro is now available for all UTS staff. Miro allows you to import your Jamboards directly, so you can retain them and keep editing them in the future. If you’re new to Miro, check out the Welcome Board in Miro for an orientation.
Other online whiteboard options at UTS include Microsoft Whiteboard and Zoom Whiteboard. However, these don’t have direct import options for Jamboards.
Not sure which alternative will work best for you? Book a consultation with a learning designer at the LX Lab. We can help you explore different online whiteboard options for your teaching.
