Heard about the recent Cambridge Analytica Facebook scandal? Did you wonder if your data was compromised? Did it make you change your behaviour online?
These are the kinds of questions asked and explored in this short taster course (3-5 hours online) developed by Dr Kirsty Kitto and Dr Simon Knight with the help of the postgraduate.futures team. In the taster, Kirsty and Simon take a human-centred perspective on data – learners think about what Facebook data can (and can’t) reveal about us as people.
Why a taster course?
To taste what it’s like to learn at UTS! ‘What does Facebook know about you’ is the first part of a data literacy series, an essential skill for the 21st century. It shows how UTS is putting creativity and innovation front and centre in such programs like the UTS Masters of Data Science and Innovation (MDSi) – the first transdisciplinary data science degree offered in Australia.
Want to see what a taster course looks like? Or maybe you want to know about your own Facebook data trail. Why not find out on UTS Open? (Use your UTS staff email but you’ll need to register and set up a new password.)
