Did targeting your messages to students in large non-subject sites just get easier? Oh yes it did.

What was the problem?

Some non-subject sites require automated enrollments coming from CASS. These are based upon particular Course codes. Each year group connected with a course would have its own section created in Canvas. However, the sections never had a year date attached to them. This meant that it was difficult to target a message to a particular year group.

For example, you may have multiple sections with the same UTS Course Code like ‘C04008 All Students’. You can see how this would cause confusion. Not only is the section not ‘all students’ associated with that UTS Course, but it also doesn’t tell you when those student first enrolled.

What’s the change?

Now, any non-subject sites that were drawing enrolments from CASS will now have sections with Course Code and YEAR and SESSION displayed in the Course ID.

What’s the benefit?

Now you can target specific cohorts with tailored messages. For example, if you want to send something to your first year students, you can select the year group and sessions of that group of students. Remember to select Autumn and Spring if you want to target the entire year.

Who does it affect?

Do you manage a Non-subject site? These may include sites for your UTS Course or Program. If you have any Non-subject site that draws it’s enrollments from a particular UTS Course ID, this change will affect you.
