Is your professional practice in learning and teaching being recognised? How do you demonstrate to current and future institutions you work with that your practices are effective, and contribute to high-quality learning?
One way is to have your expertise formally recognised with an AdvanceHE Fellowship, which you can hear more about here and at the upcoming UTS Learning & Teaching Forum. If you already have Fellowship with AdvanceHE, we invite you to register your interest in joining our growing UTS Fellowship Community, who will lead the process of mentoring our colleagues and reviewing applications as we roll out the Program.
International recognition for your teaching practices
UTS is in the process of applying for accreditation with AdvanceHE in order to enhance our approach to the reward and recognition of effective and inclusive teaching practice. AdvanceHE are an independent higher education body based in the UK who partner with higher education institutions across the world to enable approaches to teaching and learning that ‘unlock the potential of their people’. That’s you!
Successful accreditation of teaching and learning with AdvanceHE will allow UTS to provide you with a supported pathway towards Fellowship and international recognition of effective and inclusive teaching and learning. Unlike competitive learning and teaching awards and citations where only the best applications can be successful, if you apply for a Fellowship and can provide the evidence that you meet the relevant Descriptor and Dimensions of the Professional Standards Framework (PSF2023), then you will be awarded.
Supporting pathways to fellowship
In 2025, UTS will be piloting supported pathways towards three categories of Fellowship: Associate Fellowship (AFHEA), Fellowship (FHEA) and Senior Fellowship (SFHEA). The category you apply for depends on the scope of your educational practice, from classroom teaching (AFHEA), to subject development and delivery (FHEA), to leadership and influence on the practice of others who teach and/ or support high-quality learning (SFHEA). To explore which category you would have the evidence to apply for, you are welcome to use this AdvanceHE Fellowship Category Tool.
We have been building a small group of Senior and Principal Fellows to act as mentors and reviewers for our colleagues taking our accredited pathways, and we are keen to include those of you who have previously received Fellowship to join our growing community. While we are already aware of some who already have Fellowship, we would love to hear directly from you if you would be interested in joining our core group of mentors and assessors in 2025 as we pilot our support program in Autumn.
If you already have Fellowship and would like to stay informed about the activities of our UTS Fellowship Community, and even consider becoming a mentor and/or assessor, we will be holding a session for our community of Fellows on Wednesday, December 11, 12-1pm. Please register your interest here. If you can’t make it but would like to let us know you’re a current Fellow, please email Alisa.Percy@uts.edu.au.
To find out more about the UTS Educational Fellowship Program, you are invited to an open session at the UTS Teaching and Learning Forum from 2-3pm on Friday, November 29. We hope to see you there!
