This May, don’t stay out in the cold! Join us in the LX.lab for a variety of meetups and workshops. With a range of different themes, there’s something for everyone.

Let’s talk about AI

We’re looking forward to talking the future of education alongside ChatGPT on 5 May with special guests Dr Evana Wright and Dr Frederique Sunstrum. Evana and Frederique will be showcasing their collaborations with students, and will provide an update from their experiences integrating AI into legal practice and using image generation in Design. Come along for the presentations; stay for the Q&A session and open discussion.

Later in the month, we’ll be looking at AI in relation to assessment design. This interactive workshop, presented by the LX.lab and IML, will explore approaches to AI as a learning technology, a tool for engaging students, and ways to use it in accordance with academic integrity principles. Bring your own device to this hands-on experience and explore the possibilities of AI to transform assessment practices.

Make it accessible

It’s always a good time to discuss accessibility, and May brings two new opportunities to brush up on your accessibility knowledge and ensure your content can be accessed by all of your students.

Learn to design accessible graphs, charts and diagrams on 4 May at our Inclusive Practices workshop. There are so many subjects that rely on these elements to communicate complex information, and it turns out that making them accessible will also make them more usable for everyone. So if you’re new to accessibility, don’t hesitate – allow our LX experts to guide you through this process.

Follow up in late May with a workshop on accessible layout and formatting in Canvas to up your game on keeping your layouts accessible and looking tidy and readable.

Tailor your teaching

Whether you’re teaching on campus or online (or both), there are also events for refining and developing your teaching practice. On 9 May, we’ll be looking back to think about what kinds of changes have taken place in the classroom environment as a result of the pandemic. Part of the Talking about Teaching and Learning series (see a wrap-up off the first session here), this event will be a chance to discuss and reflect with others in the community.

And for online teaching, pick up some fresh tips for creating video content with evidence-based practice on 10 May, with techniques including slick editing and adding captions.

Lean into learning technologies

Alongside these themes, we’ll also be running our regular program of workshops on learning technologies, starting with the next UTS Video Meet-up on 2 May.

Choose from a range of Canvas-related workshops, including:

Plus, get to know the new Mentimote: a remote control for controlling Mentimeter on 17 May.

We’re looking forward to seeing you in May!
